Game 11 Rapid Reaction: 49ers @ Saints

Saints 21, 49ers 31

Saints Offense Struggles, Brees Throws 2 Pick Sixes

I would first like to say congratulations to Marques Colston, on his record setting Touchdown reception, breaking Deuce McAllister’s record in typical Colston fashion. As for the game….in a day with so much to gain, the Saints took the field & appeared ready to battle it out with the 49ers in a gridiron matchup. The game went as expected to start things out, with the teams trading 3 & outs. The 49ers were able to put together a drive to take the lead 7-0, but then the Saints were able to score 14 unanswered points.

Going into the end of the 1st half, the Saints had everything going until the shifted. The Saints were never able to retake the lead. All in all, we fell short, as they were handled by the 49ers 31-21. You could automatically point out the officiating was to blame, but I believe it goes far beyond that.

What you didn't see? Bunkley was hit in the gonads & strife.

Offensive Line Full of Holes
Our O-Line had more holes in it yesterday than Swiss Cheese, and that’s the truth. They yielded 5 sacks, which lost a total of 36 yards on the day. Not to mention, we netted only 59 yards of rushing on the ground. The pressure the line was not able to contain also didn’t help the fact of our team going 3/11 on 3rd down.

Drew Makes Costly Mistake(s)
That ball should never have been thrown, but give credit where credit is due. Ahmad Brooks disguised himself, as he jumped the route in which Brees targeted Graham. I get the aggressive playcalling to produce points before the half, but it was the game changer of the day.

We're just glad Colston came back from this

Jimmy Graham Held In Check
Graham only caught the ball 4 times for 33 yards on the day, which is one of the lowest of his career. He was blanketed on the day by a host of players, and even drawing triple coverage at times. Graham had a dropped pass on one of the drives.

Yesterday, our defense showed up & came to play, but it was our offense who let us down. Our defense surrendered less than 400 yards on the day, and had a couple of turnovers to show for as well. They even held Vernon Davis to ZERO catches.

So what’s the good news? Tampa, Minnesota, & Seattle lost. So now the Saints drop a couple of spots, and are tied with Washington & Dalllas at 5-6. Seattle, Tampa, & Minnesota are the tops of the Wild Card race at 6-5, with Seattle holding the top spot. It’s far from over, however, Thursday’s matchup will be a huge one. Why you might ask? Tiebreakers are solved based on your win percentage & division record. Let’s hope we show up to play this time.
