Notes from Hispandrix
KC@SD: Thursday Night Football once again gets the shaft, as this snooze of a game features two pre-season promising clubs that have been horrid. Something has to give, and I believe it will favor the Chargers, in a rout of the Chefs Chiefs.
DEN@CIN: A very entertaining matchup here, but as we have seen, Manning is bringing about the real deal. He has been extremely dangerous, and it’s only gonna continue. The Bengals don’t have the personnel to control Manning (few actually do), so while this could be a nice matchup on paper, expect the Broncos to roll.
BAL@CLE: Cleveland has managed to beat out the Bengals & Chargers this season, teams you never would have thought to say the least. Enter a Baltimore Ravens team, fresh off the bye, and with a not so recent memory of their last loss. Healthy T-Suggs? I await you.
AZ@GB: I said it before, but remember when the Cards started so great, and the Packers didn’t? My, the times have changed. Packers will roll at home. If you don’t buy that, who’s gonna score on Arizona????
BUF@HOU: Everytime I think Buffalo/Houston, I always default my almanac memory to the ’92 AFC Wild Card game, and then the Music City Miracle. At any rate, it marks the return of Mario Williams to his roots to face the red hot Texans. I really don’t see much that will get in their way, but I at least look for a mildly entertaining game.
MIA@IND: This is probably a very underrated matchup on the radar. The Colts & Phins are both coming off wins (you see what I did there). These teams are both 4-3, but the Colts have been outscored. This is quite a tough one to pick here, but I like the Colts better at home.
DET@JAC: The Lions were finally able to find their groove, and pump out a victory against the Seahawks in the last minutes of the game last week. The Jaguars didn’t get blown out by the Packers like everyone thought they were, and then they traded away Mike Thomas to the Lions. I believe the Lions will continue their success, and win this one in Jacksonville.
CHI@TEN: Chicago has been scary. However, it’s not so much the offense, but the defense. It looked as though the Bears were going to be done in after trailing 19-7 with less than 7 minutes to go against the Panthers in the 4th Quarter, but ended up winning the game on a Robbie Gould Field Goal. The Titans lost to the Colts in OT on the sickest play since Jerome Simpson’s flip over a defender last year. I just don’t see anything happening from the Titans to derail the Bears here.
CAR@WAS: Before the season, it seemed that this would be a marquee matchup of the young talented QBs, who would have their franchises winning & such. Well, that’s out the window. The Panthers have been awful, and Cam Newton has continued to take heat, and the Redskins (3-5) hit a major slump against the Steelers last week, losing the last two. I still think this could be a good game here, but it will feature the Redskins coming out on top.
TB@OAK: Oakland may have beat up on KC last week, but all the Bucs did was upset the Vikings, lead by Doug Martin, and Josh Freeman has been red hot in the past few games. When it comes down to it, we would prefer the Bucs to lose this one, but this battle of the 3-4 teams is intriguing. I think we’ll see the Bucs win again.
MIN@SEA: Russell Wilson hasn’t been anyone you should ever dream about hanging your hat on Sunday. You might say the home crowd should help the Seahawks with some of the momentum. These offenses have had some impressive run stats, as AP Terminator is ripping up defenses, and Marshawn Lynch Skittles isn’t doing too shabby. It’ll come down to that last 5 minutes, and will side with the Vikes.
PIT@NYG: The Steelers are starting to play better, but the Giants have been doing it just about all season. With the recent storm, the Giants will be playing with another level of emotion. This should help produce a victory for them, in what will be a very great afternoon matchup.
DAL@ATL: Dallas makes entirely too many mistakes to stop Atlanta, little to no hope that we see them get derailed at home. All you can hope for is that their secondary is really that good to shut down the Falcons. However, it still has the makings of the classic trap game. We hope you can find a way to win, Mr. Romo.
PHI@NO: As always, you will receive my take on it through Keys to the Game. Let’s just say that both teams need this win, both have been struggling, who wants it more?
