Saints Overcome Early Woes, Rally to Produce a Win
I’ll just reiterate that Roman Harper HAD an interception Sunday, and had it got called one on the field, they wouldn’t have overturned it. Had we lost, I would have been on a rant on that one play this entire blog (because it helped changed the course of the game early). Instead, the Saints manufactured a win, even without Jimmy Graham. Jonathan Vilma brought a certain level of emotion to yesterday’s game (like I had pointed out, X-Factor). You could see his intensity & focus that he had on the sidelines, and he even made some great plays on the day.
Drew Brees, Offense Have First Half Beyond ‘On Fire’
20 for 25, 4TD, 313 Yards – IN THE FIRST HALF!? That seems like a typical performance through the duration of a game for a good-elite QB, but Brees did that in two quarters. He shredded the Bucs defense, and found just about anyone he could find to catch a pass. He finished the game 27 for 37, 377 Yards, the 4TD & INT. Here’s the big kicker that I loved, he did NOT take a sack on the day. We were more than happy to see Lance Moore back in action. Moore caught 9 balls for 121 yards on the day, and he helped extend many drives (as he always does).

Malcolm Jenkins Saves a Touchdown
Play of the game here. It looked as though we would contain the Bucs, who went to work inside their own 5. Josh Freeman hits Vincent Jackson, and it seemed that it would be an easy six points for the Bucs. However, Jenkins DID NOT quit, and tackled Jackson shy of the goal line (shades of Dallas, Roy Williams strip fumble). What happened after that? The Bucs took four shots, and were denied, as the Saints defense had a goal line stand, to turn the ball over. Give the run defense credit for stuffing Blount on three straight plays, and Cam Jordan went stride for stride to stop Josh Freeman on 4th down.

Saints Halftime Adjustments, Again!
Those who get all over Spagnoulo should check out the 2nd half adjustments that have been made, and especially yesterday. My buddy, Follow @TheRealJRad pointed out that yards don’t win games. So sure, while you say the Bucs got over 500 yards of offense (311 of those in the 2nd half), Vincent Jackson went off, they beat us in Time of Possession, and we gave up the worst outing to a Tight End this season (Dallas Clark 5-51-TD)….just remember that the Bucs got 7 points in the 2nd half. I’ll gladly take that every game, because of our offense. In fact, in our last three games now, all three teams (GB, SD, TB) only managed those 7 2nd half points in each game.

Luckily, this play doesn't fly in the NFL.
The biggest beef from Sunday I have is our secondary, and mainly Patrick Robinson & Corey White. P-Rob was burned terribly on the day, which we all saw that. Take away Jackson’s 90+ yarder, and he still has over 100 on the day. Our front seven get better and better each game, but the tackling could be way better too.
So, just like that after 2 games, we moved from last in the NFC South to second. The team only has gotten better, Joe Vitt is back (we do thank you Kromer), fans collectively take a sigh of relief, and we now move all thoughts to Denver (mainly Peyton Manning). It’ll be one hell of a Sunday Night matchup. As I’ve stated before, we take this one game at a time, and the only team on our mind should be the Broncos. I look forward to dissecting this in my Keys to the Game. Enjoy this week Who Dat Nation!
